What Happens to our Skin in the Warmer Seasons?

“With increased sun exposure, heat, travel and environmental stress, the skin is often dealing with dehydration, inflammation and a degree of barrier disruption. At the same time, UV exposure accelerates collagen breakdown and increases the risk of pigmentation, which means the skin is more reactive than usual. Because of this, I move away from more aggressive treatments during the summer months, particularly deep peels or certain laser procedures, as these can increase photosensitivity and the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Instead, I focus on maintaining the quality of the skin, supporting hydration and strengthening it so it can better tolerate these external stresses.

Injectable skin boosters such as Profhilo, SkinVive, NCTF and Jalupro are particularly well suited to this time of year. These treatments deliver hyaluronic acid and skin-supporting ingredients directly into the dermis, improving hydration, elasticity and overall skin function without adding volume. They help the skin retain moisture more effectively and maintain a smooth, luminous appearance, even with ongoing sun exposure.

Polynucleotides are another key treatment I use during summer. They work differently in that they support tissue repair and reduce inflammation at a cellular level. This makes them particularly useful for skin that has been sensitised by sun, travel or environmental exposure, and for delicate areas such as around the eyes.

For patients looking for something more refreshing with no downtime, treatments such as Hydrafacial or LED light therapy can be very effective. Hydrafacial helps to deeply cleanse, rehydrate and infuse antioxidants, while LED supports healing and reduces inflammation, making both ideal as treatments during periods of increased sun exposure.

In terms of frequency, I tend to keep treatments lighter but consistent. A skin booster or polynucleotide treatment every 2-3 weeks, 3 sessions is sufficient to stimulate elastin and regenerate the skin, while lighter treatments such as Hydrafacial every 4-6 weeks or LED light therapy can be done more regularly depending on the individual.

The key principle is not to overstimulate the skin. Summer treatments should support hydration, repair and resilience, allowing the skin to function well and maintain its quality, rather than trying to correct everything at once.”

My Top Summer Treatments

Skin boosters (Profhilo, SkinVive, NCTF, Jalupro)
Deeply hydrate the skin from within, improve elasticity and maintain a smooth, luminous finish without adding volume, making them ideal for warmer months.

Polynucleotides
Support skin repair, reduce inflammation and improve overall skin quality. Particularly effective after sun exposure and for delicate areas such as around the eyes.

BIORESTORATIVE treatment (e.g. Cellora Vita)
Stimulate collagen gently while supporting long-term skin strength and resilience, helping maintain structure without over-stressing the skin.

Hydrafacial & LED light therapy
Low-downtime maintenance treatments that cleanse, hydrate and calm the skin, while supporting healing and reducing inflammation during periods of increased sun exposure.
